A large number of people who are proud owners of a classic car also possibly possess a standard family car that they use on a daily basis perhaps to commute to work. The cherished classic vehicle may be kept for use on a sunny weekend or during holidays in the warmer weather.
You may be interested to read that the average cost of car insurance has once more fallen here in the UK and has been doing so for around a couple of years or so according to the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index. Yes- the index refers to normal car insurance but it may be that the average cost of insuring a classic car has also been coming down.
Apparently, the average premium in the 3 months to November 2025 amounted to £726 per annum with this being a fall of an average of £111 per annum equating to a drop of 13% when compared with a year ago. We are sure you will agree this is a sizeable drop and one that will be welcomed by many motorists in the UK considering the current economic climate.
However, another interesting set of figures in the above index also mentions that 42% of motorists in receipt of their annual renewal quotation for their car saw their premium go up by an average of 372 per annum in the 3 months to November 2025. Also, those motorists who took a little of their time to shop around with other providers of car insurance, were able to make an averaging saving of £87 per annum – again quite a difference.
It is no secret that it is the young driver who usually ends up paying more to insure their car with one reason being he or she is more likely to get caught up in an accident whilst behind the wheel of their car meaning that they are more likely to claim on their motor insurance. For example, an 18 year old pays, on average, more than any other age to insure his or car – staggering £2,262 per annum. This figure is an average of £504 per annum less than 12 months ago. A 17 year old pays an average of £1,932 per annum with this being an average of £635 less than a year ago. Compare those figures with a driver in the 40 to 49 year age bracket paying an average of £703 per annum and you can see what we mean.
Inner London continues to be, on average, the most expensive region to live in in the UK in respect of insuring a car with premiums averaging £1,119 per annum. The region that is the cheapest region to live in in respect of car insurance is the South West with premiums averaging £500 per annum.
