Readers will be disappointed to read that the number of new cars sold in the UK in November 2025 dropped when compared with the same month in 2024 based upon data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

This is concerning news for the UK economy as the motor industry is probably a significant contributor to the economy in the UK.

Although the following figures relate to the sale of new cars in the UK, those owners of classic cars may also find the data of interest as it is more than likely that those who own a classic car may also use a family saloon car on a daily basis to get to work and do the shopping in.

For the month of November 2025, the number of new cars sole here in the UK totalled 151,154 compared to 153,610 in November 2024. That is a drop of 1.6%.

The top 3 selling new cars in the UK in November 2025 were : –

1. Ford Puma 4,859
2. Kia Sportage 3,649
3. Nissan Qashqai 3,004

On a year to date basis to November 2025, the number of new cars registered here in the UK totalled 1,874,271 compared to 1,811,992 for the same period in 2024. That is a rise of 3.44%

The top 3 selling news cars in the UK on a year to date basis to November 2025 were: –

1. Ford Puma 50,808
2. Kia Sportage 45,814
3. Nissan Qashqai 38,254

The sale of new electric cars of varying types rose in the above two periods as did the market share of such cars whereas the sale of both petrol and diesel cars dropped as did the market share of such cars in the above two periods.
