If you happen to own one or more classic cars it is quite possible that you also possess a family salon or hatchback car that you use on a daily basis to commute to work or to pop to the shops in. Your classic car may only come out of the garage at weekends and even then only when the weather is good.
Many people here in the UK are struggling financially so any potential good news on the household expenditure front has got to be welcomed. Well, in that respect, you might like to read the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index that was published on the 24th March 2025 as it revealed that as at February 2025 the average cost of car insurance had reduced by £57 per annum to an average of £777 per annum when compared with the end of 2024. Furthermore, when compared with the first quarter of 2024, car insurance premiums had fallen by £164 per annum – a drop of 175 with this being a sizeable drop.
Wouldn’t it be great if similar reductions in the cost of classic car insurance have been seen as well as for standard car insurance?
The above index still shows that the most expensive place to live for car insurance is, on average, Inner London. Premiums averaged £1,208 per annum with this being £293 per annum on average less than a year ago. If you happen to live in Northern Ireland, car insurance premiums averaged £834 per annum – on average £134 per annum lower than a year ago. If you live in the South East the premiums averaged £658 per annum – an average of £140 per annum lower than a year ago. The cheapest region is the South West with premiums averaging 3523 per annum – an average of £74 per annum lower than a year ago. As you can see, there is a huge variance in premiums charged depending upon where you live in the UK.
It will probably not surprise you to read that young drivers, on average, pay more for their car insurance than older drivers. An 18 year old paid an average of £2,434 per annum as at February 2025. After all, young drivers are more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident than an experienced driver.
