Gooding and Co, who are based in Santa Monica, USA, are to hold the annual Scottsdale, Arizona classic car sale on 18 and 19 January 2013 where it is expected a number of million dollar plus classic cars will come up for auction.

Included in the auction are expected to be a prototype Maserati, a racing Porsche from days gone by and a couple of rare Ferraris.  Over the last 5 years the company can lay fame to selling the largest value classic car.

Gooding and Co is one of a number of classic car auction companies that also includes Russo and Steele, Bonhams and RM Auctions that hold auctions in January in Phoenix and Scottsdale. However, the largest auction is run by Barrett-Jackson with as many as 1,000 vehicles being sold over 6 days.

The favourite to achieve another record sale is a long wheel based convertible Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider from 1958. There were only 50 built and it benefits from a V12 3.0-liter engine producing 250 hp. The vehicle has been on show at various car shows that included Pebble Beach and Ferrari has provided a certificate confirming it is an example of matching numbers.

David Gooding, who is the CEO and President of Gooding and Co stated: “It’s near perfect, absolutely spectacular. It’s got an incredible colour scheme that’s quite rare.”

It is forecast to achieve a sale price of anywhere between $5.5 million and $7 million.

There are a number of other beautiful examples coming up for sale at the auction including:

A Porsche RSK from 1959 that is one of only 37 built. It is a silver racer, open-topped and rather small. It benefits from a flat four-cylinder engine that is capable of producing between 140 to 150 hp. The estimated price is anywhere between $2.8 million and $3.2 million.

A Ferrari 250 GT Coupe Speciale from 1958 that has a fixed roof and customised body that was deigned by Pinin Farini that adds to its exclusivity. The vehicle has a V 12 3.0-liter engine. It could sell for anywhere between $1.7 million and $2.1 million.
