If you are either thinking of buying your first classic car or are considering investing in another one to add to your collection you may find it of interest to read Hagerty’s report on the classic and collectable car market for 2025 that can be found on their website. Below we highlight some of the information contained in the report that was published towards the end of 2025.

For instance, did you know that according to the UK Hagerty Price Guide covering condition values felt to be “excellent’ for 2025, 39.3% saw their values drop and 39.1% witnessed values staying the same. Only 21.6% of classic cars saw their values increase. One could argue that is potentially good news for those of you looking to buy a classic car depending of course upon you wanting to purchase a classic car that has not seen its price go up. If you are looking to sell your classic car then it is not good news unless you own a vehicle that has risen in value or perhaps whose value has remained the same in 2025 but has still gone up in value when compared with when you bought the car.

Another interesting statistic relates to the manufacturer of a classic car showing the biggest average fall in value based upon the Hagerty Price Guide in 2025 within the “excellent” condition sector. Many of you who own a Jaguar will be upset to read that it is the Jaguar that has seen, on average, the biggest fall in value last year with a drop of 21.4%. In second place was Frazer Nash with a fall of 16.6% and in third place was Bentley with a reduction of 15.3%.

The highest sale price for a car sold at public auction in 2025 was achieved on the 1st February 2025 when a 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R achieved a price of around £45.1 million (as at 20 November 2025). That was way more than the classic car sold at public auction for the second highest price with a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM fetching circa £30.8 million. This just goes to show that, despite the difficult economic climate around the world, there is still money available to invest in classic cars.
