Sir Michael Caine is an A list actor who has appeared in numerous films and became a household name many years ago. Those of you with an interest in classic cars might like to know that the first car that he bought has been sold this week at auction by H and H Classics.

The auction took place at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford and the wonderful classic vehicle was sold for £135,000 having had an estimated sale price of between £100,000 to £150,000. The vehicle in question was a black 1968 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. When he bought the car back in 1968 it is believed to have cost between £10,000 to £11,000 so it has certainly gone up in value. Interestingly, he did not have a full driving license when he purchased the car so needed someone to drive him around.

He didn’t actually own the car for long. He sold it to a chap by the name of Jack Leach in 1970. He owned a well-known eatery by the name of Gasworks Restaurant. The car was in his possession until his demise in 2013.

The next owner bought the car in 2018 spending around £100,000 on restoration works.

Apparently, the classic vehicle has been snapped up by an on-line bidder. Let us hope that the new owner looks after the vehicle as the previous owner has obviously done.

We suspect that the fact that the car was once owned by a celebrity has had a bearing upon how much the classic car fetched at auction.
