On April 22nd, the nationwide Drive it Day will be held, a major classic car event. However, it will not be alone; the Annual Footman James Bristol Classic Car Show is slated to be held on the same day, making April 22nd an all-out classic car tribute day.
This is another step towards encouraging classic car owners to get their vehicles on the road and display them for all to see. It also pays homage to the very first Thousand Mile Trial which was held in 1900, to celebrate the efforts of 64 cars that ran the track then.

The organisers of the show will be working alongside the Westcountry’s classic car clubs in order to conclude the day’s rallies at the West Showground, Shepton Mallet and the Royal Bath. Visitors in the exclusive VIP area will then get to view the classic cars that are being shown off by these clubs.

Nigel Stevens, the show’s organiser, is very optimistic about the mega-event that has already spawned a fever among classic car aficionados across the nation.

“We trialled the date last year and it was successful, so we have decided to expand on it.”

“What better way to round off an historic drive than be welcomed back by thousands of fellow classic car drivers and enthusiasts; all eager to share stories and learn more about each other’s classic and historic cars,” he continued.

“The same is true for classic car drivers who aren’t members of a club. The weekend will be a great opportunity for them to show off their cars and share their passion with the rest of the classic car world,” he finished.

Additionally, the first thousand pre-booked classic cars to arrive on Drive it Day will be receiving a commemorative mug as a special memento of sorts.

Although the complete details of the weekend are still to be released, the show’s area will span a gigantic 100,000 sq feet, comprising of 900 different classic cars per day. Seventy clubs will be participating indoors and an estimated 100 traders will also be present to provide visitors with a variety of first and second-hand spare parts, books, tools and memorabilia.

Also included in the show will be a car boot jumble on both the days. This will be the perfect opportunity for classic car enthusiasts to sell their own car-oriented parts and items that are kept in their respective garages.

Sunday will also see the auctioning of classic cars and automobile parts by Charterhouse, which is open for public viewing on Saturday.

With media sponsors like Practical Classics, ClassicCarsforSale.co.uk, Classic Car Weekly and Classic Cars magazine, the event is set for a mighty launch. The event will also be supported by Autojumbler and Classic Motor Monthly.

Despite the rising rates of classic car insurance in the UK, enthusiastic classic car owners still find the time and opportunity to showcase their rustic beauties for the world to see.
